Della Hurd, 74, died June 2, 2013 at her Great Bend, Kansas, residence. She was born May 8, 1939 at Mansfield, Louisiana, the daughter of Willie and Ruth (Jamison) Jackson. She married Calvin Hurd May 19, 1973 at Russell, Kansas. He died July 17, 2009. A Great Bend resident since 1973, coming from Russell, Kansas, Mrs. Hurd was a homemaker. Mrs. Hurd was a member of Myers Chapel, AME Church and Salvation Army, both of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Michael Calvin Hurd, Russell; one step-son, Calvin Hurd, Jr., Lawton, Oklahoma; one daughter, Gwen Caro and her husband Vincent, Jr., Larned, Kansas; two step-daughters: Cynthia Schuler and her husband Phillip, Lawton; and Camillia Hardy, Lawton; one brother, Clint West, Shreveport, Louisiana; two sisters: Lyria Johnson, Concord, California; and Eliza Jackson, Mansfield, Louisiana; seven grandchildren: Alexis Hurd, Trey Hurd, Jada Hurd, Michael Hurd, Jr., Tyrell Hurd, Jaylni Brown, and Sarah Griffin; and one great-grandchild, Anniyah Hurd-Harders. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Robinson, Bobby Jackson, and John Lemmon; and two sisters, Juanita West and Virgie West. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2013 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Martin F. Grizzell officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to St. Rose Foundation for the benefit of the Heartland Cancer Center or Salvation Army, in care of the funeral home.
