Danielle L. Poland, 45, died August 25, 2008 at Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born October 7, 1962 at Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Daniel F. and Cecilia (Leiker) Schmidt. She married Dennis Poland July 13, 1985 at Hays, Kansas. A graduate of Hays High School and Fort Hays State University with a Master of Science degree in Education, Mrs. Poland was the principal of Unified School District 354, Claflin High School. She was a Hoisington, Kansas, resident since 1985. Mrs. Poland was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington; and the Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals and the United School Administrators. Mrs. Poland is survived by her husband, Dennis Poland, Hoisington, Kansas; one son, Darin Poland, of the home; and one daughter, Darci Poland, of the home; her mother, Cecilia Schmidt, Hays, Kansas; one brother, Daniel Schmidt, Albany, Oregon; and three sisters: Diane Radke, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Debra Brecheisen, North Bend, Oregon; and Donna Schmidt, Topeka, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her father, Dan F. Schmidt; and one brother, David Schmidt. A wake service will be at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, followed by an Altar Society Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 28, 2008 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Dwight Birket will be celebrant. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2008 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the church, Wednesday; and from 9:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Memorials in Mrs. Poland's name may be given to a charity of the donor's choice. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Claflin High School Auditorium, Claflin, Kansas.
