Dale Eugene Schartz, 50, died February 24, 2008 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, Kansas. Mr. Schartz was born March 22, 1957 at Great Bend, Kansas, the son of LeRoy and Theresa Herrman Schartz. He was a fourth generation farmer and rancher and was a lifetime resident of Great Bend. On December 10, 1977, he married Rita Brack. To this union a son, Justin Lee Schartz, was born. They later divorced. On May 29, 1982, he married Carol Salmans at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, Kansas. Mr. Schartz was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, and was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Seward, Kansas. Survivors include his wife, Carol of the home; two sons, Justin Lee Schartz, Great Bend, Kansas, and Derek Eugene Schartz of the home; two daughters, Andrea Diane Schartz, Wichita, Kansas, and Nicole Marie Schartz of the home; his parents, LeRoy and Theresa Schartz, Ellinwood, Kansas; three brothers, LeRoy Schartz, Jr., Great Bend, Kansas, Kevin Schartz and wife, Rhea (Applegate) Schartz, Ellinwood, Kansas, and Kyle Schartz and wife, Bonny (McLeland) Schartz, Great Bend, Kansas; two sisters, Betty Riggs and husband, Dale, and Lana Brown and husband, Greg, both of Great Bend, Kansas; a granddaughter, MiKayla Renee Schartz; nieces and nephews, Brent, Brian and Breanne Riggs; Joe, Christi, Shannon and Leslie Schartz; Aaron and Seth Schartz; Bailey and Kaleb Schartz; and Tanner, Kaycee, Marcus and Layton Brown. Mr. Schartz was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo and Catherine Wurm Schartz and Wendelin and Dorothy Herl Herrman; and an infant brother, Joseph LeRoy Schartz. A vigil service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 29, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, Kansas, with Father Charles Mazouch officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Dale E. Schartz Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.
