Coline P. Girton, 93, died January 1, 2007 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born December 7, 1913 at Cimarron, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest F. and Winifred (Dillman) Phelps. She married Charles A. Girton in August 1937, at Pueblo, Colorado. He died August 27, 1996. A resident of Great Bend since 1940, coming from Protection, Kansas, Mrs. Girton was a self-employed dance and vocal instructor. Mrs. Girton was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Parnassus Club, and a member of the Golden Belt Community Concert Association, all of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Mike Girton and wife, Jeannine, Great Bend, Kansas; one daughter, Ann Valus and husband, John, Bettendorf, Iowa; one granddaughter, Gwendolyn O'Roark and husband, Brook, Aztec, New Mexico; and one great-granddaughter, Allison O'Roark. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Phelps, and a sister, Alda Johnson. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2007 in Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas. The Reverend Diana Coberly will officiate. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2007 and 9:00 a.m. to noon, Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Bryant Funeral Home. A memorial fund in Mrs. Girton's name has been established with the Great Bend Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
