Christy Smith, 49, died February 22, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. She was born May 22, 1964 at Travis Air Force Base Hospital, Fairfield, California, the daughter of Wendell H. and Mary (Brocher) Smith. A Great Bend resident since 1971, Christy was employed as a residential home care provider for Rosewood Services. She enjoyed animals, movies, reading, and sharing her wonderful wit and sense of humor. She particularly enjoyed helping others, always identifying those in need. Survivors include her mother, Mary Smith, Great Bend; two sisters: Janelle Smith, Great Bend; and Allena Thorp, rural Great Bend; nephew and nieces: Marcus Adams and his wife Brenda; Keagan Thorp; and Taran Thorp; and former brother-in-law, Tim Thorp, Kinsley, Kansas. Memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at First Southern Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Smith officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to Sunflower Early Education Center or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
