Chester Roy Watkins, 86, died March 4, 2008 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born the son of Roy and Grace Hulse Watkins June 10, 1921 at Stockton, Kansas. He married Viola Vera Suchy November 27, 1943 at LaCrosse, Kansas. She died August 10, 2006. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Mr. Watkins was an oilfield worker. Surviving Mr. Watkins are four daughters: Ruth Weber and husband, George, Great Bend, Kansas; Charlotte Lackey and husband, Bill, Blue Springs, Missouri; Sandy Byers and fiance, Ken Scofield, Hutchinson, Kansas; and Pamela Davidson, Rogers, Arkansas; three brothers: Loyd Watkins, Hays, Kansas; Cleo Watkins, Great Bend, Kansas; and Jesse Watkins, Florida; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jerald Dean Watkins; one sister, Thelda Juarez; and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Reginald A. Urban officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials in Mr. Watkins' name have been established with the Barton County Relay for Life, in care of the funeral home.
