Catherine J. Dirks, 80, died March 13, 2007 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born June 17, 1926 at Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of John E. and Alwine (Hink) Gerdes. She married Vernon W. Dirks on May 9, 1951 at rural Dodge City, Kansas. Mrs. Dirks was a homemaker and resident of Albert, Kansas, since 1951, coming from Dodge City. Mrs. Dirks was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, was active in A. L. C. Women's Association where she had been secretary, a parish worker for the Central District of A. L. C., assistant church organist and had been a delegate to several church conventions. Surviving Mrs. Dirks include her husband, Vernon W. Dirks of the home; one son, Gerald W. Dirks, Albert, Kansas; two daughters, Carolyn J. Humburg and husband, Thomas, Great Bend, Kansas, and Charlene J. Miller and husband, Dwayne, Monument, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Charlotte Humburg, Richard P. Humburg, Sara J. Humburg, Christopher J. Dirks, Jessica D. Dirks, Makenna M. Dirks, and Juli Miller. She was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother, Gerhard Gerdes. Funeral services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, rural Albert, Kansas, at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 126, 2007 with Pastor Robert S. Kreier officiating. Burial will follow in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Albert, Kansas. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, March 15, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established in Mrs. Dirks' name with Peace Lutheran Church or contributions to the Donor's Choice, both in care of the funeral home.
