Billy G. Owen, 71, died July 3, 2011 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born July 8, 1939 at Great Bend, Kansas, the son of William and Alberta (McNett) Owen. He married Barbara Ann Mendenhall June 1, 1958 at Great Bend. A Seward, Kansas, resident for thirty-five years, coming from Great Bend, Mr. Owen was a tool-pusher for LD Drilling. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and being with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid Kansas Jayhawks fan. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Owen of the home; one son, Byron Owen and wife Anna, Sterling, Kansas; three daughters: Balinda Ochs and husband Mark, Great Bend; Bridgette Weathers, Great Bend; and Billie Doty and husband Doug, Great Bend; four brothers: Carrol Owen, Hoisington, Kansas; George Owen and wife June, Astoria, Oregon; Richard Owen and wife Clarese, Ogallah, Kansas; and Ken Hodges and wife Dixie, Concord, North Carolina; two sisters: Betty Lipton and husband Noel, Atwood, Kansas; and Shirley Conrad and husband Pat, Atwood; seven granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; five step-grandsons and three step-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Bryant Funeral Home. The Reverend Dick Ogle will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery North. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2011 at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Stafford Home Health or American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
