Betty Lou Reed, 74, died June 22, 2013, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born November 18, 1938 at Great Bend, the daughter of Carl and Thelma (Morris) Whaley. She married Mills Reed October 7, 1956 at Mount Pleasant Church, Stafford County, Kansas. He died July 16, 1994. A Great Bend resident since 1995, coming from Stafford County, she was a homemaker and RSVP volunteer and bus driver. Mrs. Reed was a member of King United Methodist Church, Great Bend. She enjoyed craftwork and dogs. Survivors include two sons: Lloyd Reed and his wife Pam, Great Bend; and Mark Reed and his wife Juli, Great Bend; three daughters: Susan Davis and her husband Frank, Whitesboro, Texas; Sara Hames, Great Bend; and Mary Zerr and her husband Mark, Colby, Kansas; one brother, Richard Whaley and his wife Lou Ann, Albany, Oregon; fourteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, John Reed. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Barton County Historical Society, in care of the funeral home.
