Betty J. Patterson, 80, died April 16, 2011 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood, Kansas. She was born May 5, 1930 at Beaver, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Mirla (Colhour) Phillips. She married Junior Lee Patterson September 24, 1948 at Beaver. He died September 9, 2010. A longtime Hoisington resident, Mrs. Patterson was a retired school teacher, having taught at Beaver and USD #431, retiring in 1989. Mrs. Patterson was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hoisington; and was a former member of Friends Church, Beaver. Survivors include two sons: Jim Patterson, Ogallah, Kansas; and John Patterson, Wamego, Kansas; one step-brother, Lloyd Bryan, Huntington Beach, California; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her step-father, Jim Bryan; one brother, Lloy Phillips; and one sister, Darlene Rowley. Memorial graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Hoisington Cemetery. The Reverend Dick Ogle will officiate. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to the Roosevelt Elementary School Library, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
