Betty L. Mortimer, 71, died February 25, 2010 at her Great Bend, Kansas, residence. She was born March 1, 1938 at Soper, Oklahoma, the daughter of Frank T. and Dovie (Lemon) Short. She was a waitress at Ralph Wallace and later the Club at StoneRidge, Great Bend. Survivors include three sons: Marlon Wayne Halzle, Joliet, Illinois; Scott L. Halzle, St. John, Kansas; and Alan C. Halzle, Bentonville, Arkansas; two daughters: Susan K. Brough, Great Bend, Kansas; and Angela Thomas, Derby, Kansas; one brother, John Short, Arizona; three sisters: Grace Jones, Dierks, Arkansas; Joyce Rust, Apache Junction, Arizona; and Frankie Pritchett, Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Marie Halzle; one brother, ElRoy Short; and one grandson Shane A. Halzle. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2010 at Great Bend Cemetery. The Reverend Dwight Dozier was officiant. Memorials are requested to the CKMC Foundation for the Benefit of the Heartland Cancer Center, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
