Bernard C. Young, 76, died October 21, 2009 at his Great Bend, Kansas, residence. He was born April 27, 1933 at Sawyer, Kansas, the son of Doc P. and Clara (Simms) Young. He married Teresa E. Felton May 23, 1957 at Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. She died June 23, 1989. A former heavy equipment operator, Mr. Young was a Great Bend resident two years, coming from Pratt and Isabel, Kansas. He was a United States Air Force veteran. Mr. Young was a member of the Church of Christ, St. John, Kansas. Survivors include five sons: William Young, Pratt, Kansas; Michael Young, Hays, Kansas; Wes Young, Hutchinson, Kansas; Kenny Young, Hutchinson, Kansas; and Joe Young, Great Bend, Kansas; one daughter: Donna Gould, Pratt, Kansas; one brother, Virgil Young, St. John, Kansas; three sisters: Wanda Hazard, Tucson, Arizona; Jane Crandal, Denton, Texas; and Norma Collins, Medicine Lodge, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Brown. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Ellinwood Cemetery, Sawyer, Kansas, with military honors conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. The Reverend John Grummon and Carl Feril will officiate. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
