Basil L. Piland, 77, died July 27, 2010 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born April 30, 1933 at Gainsville, Missouri, the son of Margie L. Piland. He married Judith L. Boepple January 28, 1956 at Great Bend. A Great Bend resident since 1940, coming from Gainsville, Mr. Piland was a mechanic for Weller Tractor Salvage. Mr. Piland was a member of First Christian Church, Great Bend. Survivors include his wife, Judith E. Piland, of the home; one son, Jeffery Piland, Centerville, Virginia; two brothers, Kenneth Piland, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Troy Piland, Garden City, Kansas; one sister, Claudie Biles, Heizer, Kansas; and two grandchildren, Joshua Ahrens and Dakota Piland. He was preceded in death by his mother; one daughter, Michael Anne Ahrens; one brother, Gary Piland; and one sister, Wanda Conaway. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2010 at Bryant Funeral Home. The Reverend William F. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the First Christian Church Building Fund or First Christian Church Youth Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
