Barry R. Bortz, 47, died March 19, 2010 at his Hoisington, Kansas, residence. He was born February 16, 1963 at Great Bend, Kansas, the son of James R. and Janice Y. (Eliot) Bortz. He married Tina L. Vasquez February 14, 2001 at Great Bend. He was a Hoisington resident for the past eleven years, coming from Great Bend and Claflin. He was a carpenter for Thomas Quality Homes, Great Bend. Mr. Bortz enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, and outdoors in general. Survivors include his wife, Tina L. Bortz, Hoisington; his father and step-mother, Jim and Darlene Bortz, Claflin, Kansas; one daughter, Courtney Bortz, Great Bend; one step-daughter, Krystle Bartonek, Hoisington; one step-son, Derrick Bartonek, Hoisington; three brothers: Greg Bortz, Wichita, Kansas; Eric Bortz, Raleigh, North Carolina; and Aaron Bortz, Raleigh, North Carolina; one sister, Wendy Nairn, Great Bend; mother-in-law, Judy Vasquez, Great Bend; one niece and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jan Bortz; one brother, Lee Bortz; father-in-law, Joe Vasquez; and his grandparents. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2010 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. The Reverend Don Fisher will officiate. Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to service time Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Barry Bortz Medical Fund, in care of the funeral home.
