Adell Johnson, 100, died July 17, 2012 at her home, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born January 17, 1912 at Coweta, Oklahoma, the daughter of Henry and Savanna (Pearson) Scroggins. She married William Leslie Johnson June 18, 1941 at Great Bend. He died June 2, 1978. A Great Bend resident since 1939, coming from Coweta, Mrs. Johnson was a housekeeper and cook for Drs. Marion F. Russell, Sr. and Jr. families and Tom and Clu Taylor.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was an active member and involved in various church functions. She loved her family, God, cooking and entertaining. She was passionate about helping others and was a wonderful friend to many.
Survivors include one son, Jack Johnson, Pueblo, Colorado; friend, Beth Chilcott, Great Bend; the Woody Johnson Family, Great Bend; the Jean Johnson Family, Great Bend; the Dink Garner Family, Great Bend; the Bowser Family, Minnesota, Baltimore, Maryland, Augusta, Kansas, and South Carolina; and one grandson, Jay Hawkins and Family, Lee's Summit, Missouri. She was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Scroggins.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2012 at Bryant Funeral Home. The Reverend Leroy Keith will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Adell Johnson Expense Fund, in care of the funeral home.
